The US State Department has welcomed the mutual understanding between India and Pakistan to cease hostilities, praising the leadership in both countries for choosing a path defined by “wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship.”

In a statement, the State Department commended Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif for their efforts in de-escalating tensions that had flared after the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” the statement said.

The United States also reiterated its encouragement for direct communication between the two nations and emphasized its continued support in facilitating discussions to avert future conflicts. “President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio continue to urge both countries to maintain a full ceasefire and engage in direct communication,” it added.

The statement comes in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7, targeting major terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

US Vice President JD Vance had earlier praised the diplomatic efforts that helped secure the ceasefire, following Secretary Rubio’s announcement of the US-led engagement that resulted in the suspension of all military action across air, land, and sea.

In a joint press briefing at India’s National Media Centre, top commanders from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force confirmed that over 100 terrorists were eliminated, 11 Pakistani air bases were severely damaged, and several terror camps were neutralized during Operation Sindoor—all while ensuring minimal civilian casualties.

Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, asserted India’s precision and capability: “Have we achieved our objectives of decimating terrorist camps? The answer is a thumping yes, and the results are for the whole world to see.”

Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations, added a stern message to Islamabad: “This time, if Pakistan dares to act, they know what’s coming next.”

As the dust settles, the US has positioned itself as a supporter of ongoing diplomatic engagement while reinforcing its stance against terrorism and regional instability.
