US President Donald Trump has called on Americans to pray for conservative commentator and activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

On his social media platform, Trump wrote: “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”

Kirk, the head of Turning Point USA, was struck in the neck while addressing the audience. Videos from the event showed panic as attendees fled, while officials later confirmed he was the only person injured.

US Vice President JD Vance also offered prayers for Kirk’s recovery, posting on X: “Dear God, protect Charlie in his darkest hour.” He shared a photograph of himself with Kirk alongside the message.

Senator Lindsey Graham condemned the shooting, calling it a “sick and despicable attack.” Other Republican leaders also expressed shock and solidarity.

According to a university spokesperson, the shooting occurred about 20 minutes into Kirk’s presentation when gunfire was heard from a nearby building. The institution later confirmed that a single shot was fired toward the visiting speaker, and a suspect has since been taken into custody.

Footage from the scene showed Kirk collapsing as blood appeared on his neck while sitting under a tent carrying the slogan “The American Comeback.”
