As part of India’s global diplomatic outreach following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, an all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor visited Guyana and held key engagements with the country’s top political leadership and business community.

On Monday, the Indian delegation met with the President of Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, at the State House in Georgetown. The delegation also held a productive meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, where they conveyed India’s unified message of zero tolerance toward cross-border terrorism.

Speaking to ANI about the interaction, Tharoor said, “It was terrific. We had a very good visit with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Manzoor Nadir. He showed a great deal of understanding for our position and concerns. Each MP contributed to the discussion, effectively conveying the determination of the Indian nation.”

During their visit to Guyana’s National Assembly, the Indian MPs also signed the official visitors’ book, symbolizing India’s respect for bilateral parliamentary relations.

In addition to official meetings, the delegation paid floral tributes at key cultural and historical landmarks in Georgetown. They honored the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi with a tribute at his bust located in Promenade Gardens and visited the bronze replica of the historic Whitby ship—the vessel that brought the first Indian indentured laborers to Guyana in 1838.

Later in the day, the delegation engaged with prominent members of Guyana’s business community. These interactions aimed to bolster economic ties and communicate India’s broader message of peace, stability, and a resolute stand against terrorism.

This visit is part of a wider initiative launched by the Indian government, which has dispatched seven multi-party delegations to various countries to inform the international community about Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terrorism and to build support for India’s post-attack response—Operation Sindoor.

Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor was a targeted and proportionate military campaign in response to the Pahalgam attack, resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists linked to groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
