Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on Wednesday for a landmark five-nation tour spanning Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia from July 2 to 9. The visit includes key bilateral and trilateral meetings and participation in the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the tour is aimed at strengthening India’s engagement with the Global South, expanding economic and strategic cooperation, and reinforcing India’s role in multilateral platforms.

Ghana (July 2–3): PM Modi’s visit to Ghana marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister in three decades. At the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama, the visit will focus on bolstering ties in investment, energy, health, security, and capacity building. PM Modi will also address the Parliament of Ghana, highlighting shared democratic values and historical ties.

Trinidad and Tobago (July 3–4): Celebrating 180 years of Indian presence in the Caribbean nation, PM Modi will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. The visit aims to rejuvenate ancestral and cultural ties and explore areas of bilateral cooperation.

Argentina (July 4–5): Marking the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit to Argentina in 57 years, PM Modi will hold talks with President Javier Milei to expand cooperation in agriculture, energy, critical minerals, trade, and technology.

On July 6–7, PM Modi will attend the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, reaffirming India’s commitment to global south solidarity and a balanced multipolar world order. He will also engage in bilateral meetings with world leaders and make a state visit to Brasilia, the first by an Indian PM in nearly six decades, for talks with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Concluding his tour, PM Modi will visit Namibia, a close partner in Africa with shared anti-colonial history. He will meet President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, address a joint session of the Namibian Parliament, and discuss a roadmap to strengthen cooperation in development and regional solidarity.

“This tour will reinforce our bonds of friendship across the Global South, strengthen partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic, and deepen India’s role in multilateral platforms such as BRICS, the African Union, ECOWAS, and CARICOM,” the Prime Minister said ahead of his departure.

The tour is expected to set a new course for India’s foreign policy outreach, blending diplomacy, development, and global leadership.
