MoS Pabitra Margherita Engages with Indian Diaspora in South Africa, Showcases India’s Global Transformation

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, met with members of the Indian community in South Africa on Saturday, highlighting India’s rapid transformation and its expanding global footprint.

In a post on X, the Minister shared, “Delighted to interact with the Indian Community in South Africa. Apprised them of the progress in our bilateral relationship. Spoke about the transformations underway in India that have enhanced our global outreach and created opportunities for Indians abroad.”

Margherita is currently in South Africa to participate in the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting under the South African presidency. During his visit, he attended key sessions and held discussions with various leaders.

At the G20 session, he emphasized India’s progress in social protection schemes and called for action to combat illicit financial flows and bridge the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) financing gap. “Highlighted India’s key achievements in ensuring inclusive Social Protection for all,” he posted.

He also held talks with South African Minister Maropene Ramokgopa, discussing critical issues such as debt sustainability and access to critical minerals. Margherita extended an invitation for South Africa to join the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

His visit underscores India’s commitment to inclusive development and stronger global partnerships, especially with countries across the Global South.
