Japanese Envoy Offers Prayers in Ayodhya, Strengthens Cultural and Economic Ties with Uttar Pradesh

Japanese Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi visited the holy city of Ayodhya on Saturday, where he offered prayers at Hanumangarhi and Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, marking a significant gesture of cultural respect and spiritual diplomacy.

Wearing a garland and a traditional ‘teeka’, Ambassador Keiichi and his team paid homage at the revered sites, following his recent meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

In a post on X, the envoy emphasized bilateral cooperation: “Concurred with Yogi Adityanath for Japan-UP cooperation in investment, technologies, human-resource development and tourism. Look forward to working with CM Yogi by putting the right eye of the Daruma doll as a promise of our collaboration.”

During his visit to Lucknow, Keiichi also experienced the local culinary heritage, sharing his delight after tasting Hyderabadi Mutton Biryani and Awadhi cuisine, calling Lucknow the “City of Nawabs”.

Earlier this week, the Japanese Embassy hosted the Conference of Battery and Critical Minerals Ecosystem in New Delhi, drawing over 200 participants from 70+ companies, underscoring Japan’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with India in the clean energy and critical minerals sectors.

As part of his tour, Ambassador Keiichi also visited the Indian Blind and Para Judo Association in Lucknow, encouraging para-athletes and reaffirming Japan’s support for inclusive sports development.

“Excited to meet future Olympians/Paralympians at Indian Blind and Para Judo Association, Lucknow. Japan continues to support their passion, fair-play spirit & quest for excellence,” he posted.

The envoy’s visit highlights the growing cultural and economic collaboration between Japan and India, with a special focus on Uttar Pradesh as a key partner in this evolving relationship.
