Congress leader and former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, speaking as part of an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation in Japan, reaffirmed India’s unwavering resolve to eliminate terrorism and uphold the path of unity, inclusivity, and peace.
Addressing the Indian community during an interaction in Tokyo, Khurshid said, “Our resolution is against terrorism and to end terrorism.” Drawing a historical contrast, he recalled the choices made in 1947, emphasizing that while India chose a path of collective nation-building, Pakistan was created on religious grounds — a model that, he asserted, has since proven unsustainable.
“In 1947, India decided to build a country where people of all faiths live together in harmony and call it Bharatvarsh. Pakistan, on the other hand, was formed in the name of religion. Today, the difference between these two ideologies is clear — one promotes inclusivity, the other division,” Khurshid said.
He also highlighted India’s role in the creation of Bangladesh as a reflection of its commitment to justice and self-determination, and criticized the internal disunity and religious intolerance that plague Pakistan’s governance model.
Reaffirming India’s peaceful global vision, Khurshid invoked the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda. “We have chosen the path of the world — the path of peace. It is the path of Gandhi and Vivekananda, and the one embraced by all successful nations,” he said. “While others struggle to coexist, India celebrates Diwali, Eid, Christmas, and Holi together. This harmony is what some find difficult to tolerate.”
The delegation, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, includes representatives from across India’s political spectrum — Ambassador Mohan Kumar, BJP MPs Hemang Joshi, Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, and Pradan Baruah; CPI(M) MP John Brittas; and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. The group is on a diplomatic outreach mission from May 22–24 in Japan and will subsequently travel to Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, and Singapore to share India’s unified stand against terrorism with global partners.
