Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede in Bengaluru that claimed 11 lives and left over 30 others injured. In a heartfelt message on X, Dhankhar urged citizens to prioritise safety during public celebrations.

“Deeply pained by the loss of lives at the tragic stampede in Bengaluru. My heart goes out to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I pray for the early recovery of the injured. Let us always remember to prioritise safety and celebrate responsibly,” he posted.

The stampede occurred near Chinnaswamy Stadium during a victory celebration that drew an unexpectedly massive crowd. The Karnataka government has announced ₹10 lakh as compensation to the families of each deceased and assured free medical treatment for the injured.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, addressing the media, said, “A major tragedy occurred during the celebrations near the stadium. The government is deeply saddened. We did not expect such a huge crowd — the stadium’s capacity is 35,000, but nearly 2–3 lakh people arrived. People even broke the gates, leading to the stampede.”

The CM also announced a magisterial inquiry into the incident and ruled out any political blame game. “I don’t want to defend this incident. Our government will not politicise it. I have ordered an inquiry with a 15-day deadline,” he said.

The incident has prompted widespread mourning and calls for stricter crowd control and safety measures at large public events.
