Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) MP Supriya Sule strongly criticized the Maharashtra government on Friday over the recent rape case in Pune, calling the incident both “alarming and concerning.” She expressed deep concern about the growing crime rate in the state and promised to take up the matter with the relevant authorities.

“It’s a sad thing that has happened. Crime in Pune and Maharashtra is really on the rise. It’s very alarming and concerning. I will write to the concerned authorities to look into this. We must have zero tolerance against any crime against any citizen,” Sule told ANI.

The incident in question involves the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman by a man posing as a courier agent in Pune’s Kondhwa area. According to police, the accused gained entry to the victim’s flat around 7:30 pm on Wednesday and attacked her after she briefly stepped away to retrieve a PIN for the delivery.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), Rajkumar Shinde, said, “An offence under BNS sections 64, 77, and 351(2) has been registered. The accused entered the home with a courier envelope and took advantage of the situation to commit the crime. The victim was found unconscious, and forensic experts were called in to investigate the possibility of any substance being used to subdue her.”

Shinde also confirmed that a selfie found on the woman’s phone may offer clues and is currently under analysis. Ten teams—five from the crime branch and five zonal teams—have been deployed to investigate the case.

The shocking incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stronger safety measures for women across Maharashtra.
