The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appointed its national general secretary Sunil Bansal as the convener of the 15-day-long Seva Pakhwada campaign, which will begin on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, September 17, and run till October 2 — the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Bansal, a senior RSS pracharak and one of BJP’s key organisational strategists, has played an instrumental role in the party’s resurgence in Uttar Pradesh and has also overseen election preparations in Odisha, Bengal, and Telangana.
Under his leadership, BJP cadres across the country are preparing for the Seva Pakhwada, which will include blood donation and health camps, cleanliness drives, the One Tree in Mother’s Name initiative, exhibitions, and dialogue programmes.
According to Bansal, 771 dialogue events will be held nationwide, including special interactions with differently-abled citizens, during which assistive devices will be distributed.
As part of the celebrations, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) will organise the Modi Vikas Marathon on September 21 in more than 75 major cities, while all BJP MPs will host sports festivals in their constituencies. Registrations for the sports events began on August 29, with formal competitions scheduled to start on September 21 and continue through December and January, alongside cultural activities such as painting competitions.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Bansal also announced that starting September 25 — Deendayal Upadhyaya Jayanti — the BJP will launch the Atmanirbhar Bharat, Viksit Bharat campaign, running till December 25.
Interestingly, despite being a senior figure in the BJP since 2016, Bansal had never addressed the media until now. His first press briefing was to outline the details of Seva Pakhwada, a campaign designed to highlight service, inclusivity, and the BJP’s nationwide grassroots reach in honour of PM Modi’s milestone birthday.
