In a significant counter-terrorism operation, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district uncovered a suspected terror hideout in Surankot village on Monday, seizing a cache of explosives and communication equipment. The joint operation was conducted by Poonch Police and the Army’s Romeo Force.

According to officials, the team recovered five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), multiple radio sets, wires, binoculars, and blankets from the concealed location. Photographs released by Poonch Police displayed the seized materials, underscoring the magnitude of the threat neutralized.

This development comes just a day after Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, VK Birdi, chaired a high-level security review meeting at PCR Kashmir. The session brought together senior officers from the Army, Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and intelligence agencies to assess the evolving security landscape in the Valley.

Meanwhile, tensions have flared along the Line of Control (LoC), as the Pakistan Army has continued unprovoked small arms firing across multiple sectors, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. Indian forces have responded swiftly and in a calibrated manner, marking the eleventh consecutive day of such retaliatory action since firing began on April 25-26.

In a related escalation, India recently closed its airspace to all aircraft registered in or operated by Pakistan, a move announced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on April 30. This decision follows the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 people dead and prompted a series of strong diplomatic and military responses from New Delhi.

The recovery of explosives in Poonch signals the ongoing threat of infiltration and sabotage attempts in the region, even as security forces maintain heightened vigilance in the face of mounting cross-border hostilities.
