Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has launched a sharp critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raising concerns about U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported involvement in discussions around Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Speaking to reporters, Raut questioned the implications of Trump’s interest in mediating the Kashmir issue, stating that it undermines India’s sovereignty. He accused PM Modi of projecting strength but acting in a way that contradicts his rhetoric.

“Modi ji claims to have a 56-inch chest and talks about bringing enemies to their knees. Yet, Trump’s actions have disrespected India’s sovereignty,” Raut said. “Our PM talks about trade with Trump and PoK with Pakistan, but for even that, he seems to need America’s permission. It now appears that Trump is running the country. Our businessmen may seem powerful, but they are being dictated by international players. Where has the Prime Minister’s patriotism gone?” he questioned.

Raut’s remarks come amid growing political reactions following Operation Sindoor, India’s recent precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK. The operation was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

Referring to this, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja echoed Raut’s concerns and questioned the government’s silence on key issues. “The nation is united in the fight against terrorism. But the Prime Minister must answer how such an attack in Pahalgam occurred. What were the security lapses? What understanding was reached with Pakistan, and what role did the U.S. play?” he asked. Raja also reiterated CPI’s demand for a special session of Parliament for the Prime Minister to clarify the government’s position.

Addressing the nation after Operation Sindoor, PM Modi stated that the mission marked a significant milestone in India’s counter-terror strategy. Citing the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot air strikes, he described the operation as setting a “new benchmark and new normal” in India’s approach to terrorism.

“Our Armed Forces—Army, Air Force, Navy, Border Security Force, and paramilitary forces—remain on constant alert,” PM Modi declared, affirming the government’s commitment to national security.

However, opposition leaders continue to press for transparency and assert that India’s sovereignty must not be compromised through backdoor diplomatic dealings.
