The murder of Indore-based Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was recovered in Meghalaya during a honeymoon trip, continues to spark shock and suspicion within his family as fresh revelations surface, including the alleged involvement of Raj Kushwaha—reportedly an employee of Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, who earlier accused the Meghalaya administration of being unresponsive, has now acknowledged that with the emergence of new suspects, the state government’s claims appear credible.
“I had no idea about these 3–4 individuals until their names surfaced. Raj Kushwaha’s involvement suggests Sonam could also be linked. He was her employee, and they would frequently speak on the phone,” Vipul told ANI. “Initially, I didn’t believe Sonam could be involved, but now I feel the Meghalaya government isn’t lying about others’ roles. If proven guilty, they should receive strict punishment.”
Vipul added that the couple originally planned to visit only Assam to offer prayers at the Kamakhya Temple but unexpectedly extended the trip to Meghalaya. “We don’t know who made that decision. No return tickets were booked,” he said.
Meanwhile, Raja’s other brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, expressed gratitude to the Meghalaya Police and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for their swift investigation. He stated, “Sonam herself will reveal the truth. If she is found guilty, strict action must follow.”
Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, however, continues to insist on her innocence and has accused the Meghalaya government and police of “fabricating stories from the beginning.”
Sonam Raghuvanshi was found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway and is now in police custody. The investigation into Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder remains active as authorities work to uncover the full extent of those involved.
