Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a public rally in poll-bound Bihar on Friday, launched a scathing attack on the opposition INDIA bloc partners — the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress — accusing them of stalling the state’s development and exploiting the poor for political gain.

Speaking after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development projects worth ₹7,200 crore, PM Modi urged voters to “protect Bihar from the malicious intentions” of the RJD-Congress alliance.

“Congress and RJD have long done politics in the name of the poor, Dalits, backwards, and tribals, yet failed to ensure equal rights or dignity. Their arrogance is evident to all today,” said PM Modi.

He alleged that during the rule of these parties, even basic aspirations like painting a house were discouraged due to fear of landlords and systemic suppression.

“In those times, pucca homes for the poor were unimaginable. Today, welfare schemes are reaching the people directly,” he asserted.

Highlighting the transformation in Bihar over the past two decades, Modi reminded the crowd of the state’s previous struggles under RJD-Congress rule, saying that “development was stalled and corruption was rampant.”

“Bihar is a land of brave people who have broken free from the chains of misrule. It is essential for the younger generation to know how far we’ve come,” he added.

The rally comes ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, expected in October–November 2025. While dates are yet to be announced by the Election Commission, political campaigns have intensified.

Currently, the NDA holds a majority in the 243-member Bihar Assembly with 131 seats, including 80 of the BJP and 45 of JD(U). The opposition INDIA bloc has 111 members, led by RJD with 77 MLAs, followed by Congress and Left parties.

PM Modi’s rally and infrastructure push are seen as key efforts to shore up NDA’s position ahead of the high-stakes state polls.
