PM Modi Unveils ₹2,200 Crore Development Projects in Varanasi, Boosting Infrastructure, Tourism, and Healthcare

Strengthening the city’s power infrastructure, Modi launched projects under the Smart Distribution Project and undergrounding of electrical systems, amounting to over ₹880 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his 51st visit to his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, laid the foundation stone and inaugurated a series of development initiatives worth approximately ₹2,200 crore on Saturday.

Among the key infrastructure projects, the Prime Minister inaugurated the widening and strengthening of the Varanasi-Bhadohi and Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar roads, and a railway overbridge at Hardattpur, aimed at easing traffic congestion. He also laid foundation stones for multiple road upgrades and new railway overbridges across the region.

Strengthening the city’s power infrastructure, Modi launched projects under the Smart Distribution Project and undergrounding of electrical systems, amounting to over ₹880 crore.

In a significant push to tourism and heritage conservation, PM Modi inaugurated the redevelopment of eight riverfront Kuccha Ghats, restoration of Durgakund, and beautification works at several temples and cultural sites, including Kalika Dham, Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, and Munshi Premchand’s ancestral home. He also launched initiatives for an Urban Miyawaki Forest and beautification of Shaheed Udyan and 21 public parks.

The Prime Minister also focused on water conservation, launching kund restoration and water purification projects, alongside floating pujan platforms. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, he inaugurated 47 rural drinking water schemes to improve potable water access.

In the education sector, Modi inaugurated the upgradation of 53 municipal schools and laid the foundation for a new district library and renovation of several government high schools.

Healthcare saw a significant boost as he inaugurated robotic surgery and CT scan facilities at the Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, along with launching a new Homoeopathic College and Hospital, and an Animal Birth Control and Dog Care Centre.

These initiatives collectively aim to transform Varanasi’s urban infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, and heritage preservation, aligning with PM Modi’s broader development vision for the holy city.
