The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) is set to witness a historic celebration on June 21, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the national event from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, under the unifying theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”

The theme reflects India’s vision of global well-being and underscores the interconnectedness of personal and planetary health—rooted in the Indian ethos of “Sarve Santu Niramaya” (May all be free from disease).

PM Modi arrived in Visakhapatnam on Friday evening, where he was received by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

“All districts of Andhra Pradesh are geared up to participate in the grand culmination of #Yogandhra,” the CM posted on X, welcoming the Prime Minister.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, PM Modi will join over 3 lakh participants in performing the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) at the main venue, as part of the nationwide Yoga Sangam initiative, synchronised with over 10 lakh other locations across India.

The mass demonstration will take place from 6:30 to 7:45 AM, with participation expected from more than 2 crore people across the country. Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav and CM Naidu will also join the Prime Minister on stage.

In a move to mark the milestone 10th anniversary of IDY, Andhra Pradesh is attempting a Guinness World Record, while planning to distribute over 50 lakh yoga certificates to registered participants.

As part of pre-event celebrations, 25,000 tribal children performed 108 Surya Namaskars in 108 minutes at Andhra University, highlighting yoga’s expanding grassroots reach.

Meanwhile, Delhi is set to host yoga events at 109 locations, including a major session at the Red Fort, organised by Brahma Kumaris in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH and supported by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and the Archaeological Survey of India.

In a personal outreach, PM Modi addressed a letter to Gram Pradhans, encouraging them to promote yoga within their communities. His message has once again stirred enthusiastic grassroots participation, particularly in Panchayats, Anganwadis, and Community Health Centres.

This year’s IDY features 10 Signature Events developed by the Ministry of AYUSH over 100 days, including:

  • Yoga Sangam – mass demonstrations across 1 lakh+ locations
  • Yoga Bandhan – international collaborations and exchanges
  • Harit Yoga – integrating yoga with environmental actions
  • Yoga Park – developing yoga-focused public spaces
  • Yoga Samavesh – inclusive yoga for marginalised groups
  • Yoga Prabhava – a decade-long impact report
  • Yoga Connect – a global virtual summit
  • Yoga Unplugged – youth-centric tech and trend campaigns
  • Yoga Maha Kumbh – large-scale spiritual yoga gatherings
  • Samyoga – bridging yoga and modern medicine

So far, over 11 lakh organisations and groups have registered for Yoga Day events, far surpassing the initial target of 1 lakh. Rajasthan leads participation with over 2.25 lakh registrations.

Globally, Indian embassies and cultural centres are holding yoga events, showcasing India’s leadership in wellness diplomacy.

As the world gathers to mark a decade of this global movement, IDY 2025 is poised to be a defining chapter in India’s journey to promote health, harmony, and sustainability through yoga—a timeless gift from India to the world.
