Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a vibrant roadshow in his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi, ahead of his scheduled bilateral talks with visiting Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
PM Modi, who received a grand welcome upon arrival, led the roadshow from Police Line to Hotel Taj, where enthusiastic crowds gathered to greet him.
Ramgoolam, currently on a state visit to India from September 9 to 16, had earlier met Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in Varanasi. Uttar Pradesh Minister Dayashankar Mishra welcomed the high-level talks, describing Mauritius as “the second India in the world” and highlighting the cultural significance of Kashi.
Ramgoolam arrived in Varanasi on September 9, where he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour and received by UP Governor Anandiben Patel.
The bilateral discussions between the two leaders will cover the entire spectrum of cooperation—with focus areas including development partnership, capacity building, health, education, science & technology, energy, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy.
This visit builds on the momentum of PM Modi’s March 2025 visit to Mauritius, when the two countries elevated their ties to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.
Mauritius, a key maritime partner in the Indian Ocean Region, plays a central role in India’s MAHASAGAR Vision and Neighbourhood First policy. Strengthened cooperation between the two nations is expected to contribute significantly to the aspirations of the Global South.
Later in the day, PM Modi will travel to Dehradun to conduct an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in Uttarakhand and chair a high-level review meeting.
