Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-energy roadshow in Motihari on Friday, ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Riding in an open jeep, PM Modi greeted large crowds of supporters, accompanied by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy CMs Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Chaudhary.

The visit also marked the launch and foundation stone laying of development projects worth over ₹7,200 crore across Bihar. These projects span sectors including railways, roads, IT infrastructure, and fisheries, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, boosting job creation, and empowering rural and urban populations alike.

The Prime Minister announced that four new Amrit Bharat trains, new Software Technology Parks, and major rail infrastructure projects—such as doubling of rail lines, modernisation of signalling systems, and Vande Bharat maintenance facilities—are part of this development package.

A significant component is the ₹4,080 crore Darbhanga–Narkatiaganj rail line doubling, which will improve passenger and freight operations in North Bihar.

As Bihar gears up for elections—expected in October or November 2025—the NDA alliance (BJP, JD(U), and LJP) is aiming to retain power, while the INDIA bloc (RJD, Congress, and Left parties) is working to challenge the incumbent leadership.

In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the NDA currently holds 131 seats, with BJP (80) and JD(U) (45) leading the alliance. The INDIA bloc holds 111 seats, dominated by RJD (77) and Congress (19).

While the Election Commission has yet to announce official poll dates, political momentum is clearly building—with PM Modi’s visit signalling the start of a high-stakes campaign season.
