Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Rising North East Investors Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, calling the North-East region the most diverse and dynamic part of India. Highlighting its immense economic and cultural potential, he described the North-East as a key pillar in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.

“From trade to tradition, from textiles to tourism, the North-East is the most diverse part of our diverse India,” the Prime Minister said, underlining the region’s wide-ranging strengths.

PM Modi emphasized that the North-East symbolizes multiple engines of growth and opportunity.

“North-East means bio-economy and bamboo, tea and petroleum, sports and skills, eco-tourism, organic farming, and a powerhouse of energy,” he said.

Describing the region as “Ashtalakshmi”, a reference to the eight forms of the goddess of wealth, Modi said that every North-Eastern state is ready for leadership and investment.

“With the blessings of Ashtalakshmi, every state in the North-East is saying — We are ready for investment, we are ready for leadership,” he remarked.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to regional equity, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of developing Eastern India — with the North-East playing a pivotal role — in the mission to achieve Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

“For us, EAST is not just a direction. It stands for Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform — that is our policy for Eastern India,” he said.

The Rising North East Investors Summit, held on May 23–24, aims to position the region as a land of opportunity, attracting both domestic and global investment. The summit brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs to explore the untapped potential of the North-East in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, energy, and technology.
