In the aftermath of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, including one Nepali national, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a second high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday to review the nation’s security preparedness.

The meeting was followed by sessions of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), and a full Cabinet meeting.

The CCS had last met on April 23, where detailed intelligence briefings revealed cross-border links to the Pahalgam attack. Officials noted that the incident came amid successful elections and economic progress in Jammu and Kashmir, suggesting an intent to destabilize the region.

During the latest CCS meeting, strong condemnation of the attack was reiterated, along with condolences to the families of the victims and hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured. The government has since taken a series of stern measures, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty, signaling its displeasure with Pakistan’s continued support for cross-border terrorism.

On Tuesday, PM Modi also chaired a separate security meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the three service chiefs. In the meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s resolve to respond decisively to terrorism and granted the armed forces full operational freedom to determine the timing, targets, and methods of retaliation.

Sources said the Prime Minister expressed complete faith in the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces and emphasized that India would deliver a “crushing blow” to terrorism.
