Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday praised Operation Sindoor as a landmark moment in India’s counter-terror strategy, attributing its success to the decisive political leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the accuracy of intelligence inputs, and the lethality demonstrated by the Indian Armed Forces.

Speaking at the Border Security Force (BSF) Investiture Ceremony in the national capital, Shah said the operation was a “perfect synergy” of leadership, intelligence, and military might. “Operation Sindoor is when our Prime Minister’s strong political will, accurate information from our intelligence-gathering agencies, and the army’s amazing display of lethality come together,” Shah declared.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April that killed 26 people, including a Nepali national. In retaliation, the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Shah recounted how Pakistan’s longstanding sponsorship of terrorism had gone largely unanswered until 2014, when Prime Minister Modi took office. Referring to the Uri attack and the subsequent surgical strikes, he said: “Pakistan carried out many big incidents for years, but it had not been given a proper response… We gave a befitting reply for the first time by entering the terrorist hideouts after Uri.”

He noted that Pakistan’s reaction to India’s strikes exposed its complicity in terrorism. “When we attacked terrorist sites in Pakistan, they retaliated. Their army even attended the funerals of terrorists. Today, Pakistan stands exposed.”

Highlighting the BSF’s critical role, Shah lauded the force for holding their positions during cross-border shelling: “During the tension, BSF did not leave the border. They retaliated with full force.”

Shah also hailed the effectiveness of indigenous weapons used during the operation, stating: “We witnessed the success of indigenous defence systems in Operation Sindoor. Under PM Modi’s leadership, we are moving towards true self-reliance.”

The Home Minister underscored the importance of the BSF in guarding India’s “two most sensitive borders”—Pakistan and Bangladesh: “BSF was entrusted with guarding the two most difficult borders, and your performance has been exemplary.”

Operation Sindoor is being seen as a turning point in India’s proactive counterterrorism doctrine, combining military might, diplomatic messaging, and technological self-reliance to deliver a clear message of zero tolerance for terrorism.
