Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in achieving India’s net zero emissions target by 2070, as pledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at the National Seminar-2025 on ‘Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development’, the CM urged citizens, institutions, and communities to align efforts with the government’s climate vision.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the world that India will achieve net zero by 2070, but this goal cannot be fulfilled by the government alone. It demands the participation and commitment of every individual and institution,” said Yogi Adityanath. He highlighted the role of sustainable practices and environmental awareness in ensuring a future that is both ecologically balanced and economically viable.
Earlier in the day, CM Yogi directed officials across Uttar Pradesh to act swiftly in response to storms, heavy rains, and hailstorms affecting various regions. He instructed district officials to personally visit affected areas, assess damage, and ensure timely distribution of relief funds to families impacted by natural calamities, including those suffering losses due to lightning, floods, or animal fatalities.
He also emphasized the need for:
- Rapid medical treatment for the injured
- Drainage solutions in waterlogged areas
- Timely surveys and reports on crop damage to expedite compensation and support for farmers
In light of rising international cases of the JN.1 COVID-19 subvariant, CM Yogi also reviewed the state’s preparedness. While reassuring the public that Uttar Pradesh faces no immediate threat, he called for vigilance and precaution, especially in medical institutions.
“Although there is no new advisory from the Central Government, the rise in JN.1 variant cases in countries like Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong calls for proactive readiness,” he stated. All medical colleges, district hospitals, and health centres have been instructed to remain on high alert and maintain emergency preparedness protocols.
The Chief Minister’s multi-pronged approach on environmental sustainability, disaster relief, and public health preparedness signals Uttar Pradesh’s integrated governance model to address contemporary challenges.
