As the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins today, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has appealed to all political parties and Members of Parliament to ensure smooth proceedings through cooperation, constructive debate, and respectful dialogue.
Calling Parliament a “sacred temple of democracy,” Birla emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in reflecting the aspirations of the people and safeguarding national interests.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “The fifth session (Monsoon Session) of the 18th Lok Sabha is commencing today. In this sacred temple of democracy, the collective role of all representatives is extremely important for the expression of public aspirations and the protection of national interests.”
Birla urged all parties to engage in healthy democratic dialogue and focus discussions on inclusive development, social justice, and economic progress.
“Let this session be dedicated to the dignity of democracy, the prestige of Parliament, and the priority of public welfare,” he added.
The Monsoon Session 2025, which will run until August 21 with a recess from August 12 to 18, includes 21 sittings across 32 days. It is expected to be politically intense, with the Opposition INDIA bloc preparing to confront the government on issues like:

Meanwhile, the government is set to present a packed legislative agenda, including several key bills such as:
