Opposition floor leaders of the INDIA bloc are scheduled to meet at 10 am today at the Parliament office of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to chalk out a joint strategy on the Centre’s upcoming legislative agenda.
The meeting comes just hours before a crucial session of Parliament where multiple bills, including significant constitutional and statutory amendments, are slated to be introduced.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to table three major legislations in the Lok Sabha today:
- The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025
- The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025
- The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025
All three are likely to be referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament for further scrutiny.
The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, specifically seeks to amend Section 54 of the 2019 Act, introducing provisions for the removal of a Chief Minister or Minister in cases where they are arrested or detained on serious criminal charges. According to the statement of objects and reasons, the amendment aims to uphold constitutional morality and good governance by preventing those facing grave allegations from undermining public trust.
In addition, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, is also listed for introduction in the Lok Sabha by Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The Bill proposes regulation of e-sports, educational games, and social gaming, while imposing a ban on online money games operating across states or from foreign jurisdictions. It seeks to protect vulnerable groups from the social, psychological, and economic risks of unregulated platforms, while ensuring responsible use of digital technologies.
With multiple contentious legislations on the agenda, today’s INDIA bloc strategy meeting is expected to focus on formulating a united opposition stance inside both Houses of Parliament.
