The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, cautioning residents about likely rainfall and thunderstorms over the coming days.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the prevailing weather is due to oligocyclonic circulation and weakened southwest monsoon winds affecting the region. Several areas in Mumbai witnessed heavy showers on Friday, while other parts of Maharashtra experienced overcast conditions.

Despite stable temperatures—recorded at 32.2°C in Colaba and 31.7°C in Santa Cruz—the high humidity levels created a sultry and uncomfortable environment across the city. Notably, Santa Cruz received 14 mm of rainfall on Friday, whereas Colaba remained dry. Over the last six days, moderate monsoon activity has been reported, with Colaba recording a cumulative 30 mm and Santa Cruz 47.1 mm of rainfall.

Meteorologists predict this weather pattern will persist through the weekend, with light to moderate rain and potential thunderstorms continuing in Mumbai and nearby districts such as Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune, and Nagpur.

The broader monsoon impact is being observed across Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, parts of Karnataka, and Telangana, with widespread cloudy conditions.

Despite the challenging monsoon conditions, some farmers are reporting early agricultural success. A notable example includes a local farmer cultivating Iranian dates organically and earning impressive profits.

While rain is expected to persist into the weekend, a potential decrease in thunderstorm activity could occur if atmospheric conditions shift.
