In a daring operation amidst rough sea conditions, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship Rajveer rescued a US-flagged sailing vessel, Sea Angel, stranded southeast of Indira Point with two crew members on board.

The distress alert was received by MRCC Port Blair on July 10 at 11:57 hrs via the US Consulate in Chennai. The yacht, carrying one American and one Turkish crew member, had suffered a complete propulsion failure about 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Responding swiftly, MRCC activated the International Safety Net to alert nearby vessels and deployed ICG Ship Rajveer for the mission. The patrol vessel reached the distressed yacht by Friday morning, established communication with the crew, and assessed the situation.

According to the ICG, the yacht’s sail was blown off and its ropes entangled the propeller, rendering it immobile. The Sea Angel was secured and towed to Campbell Bay, arriving safely at 8:00 am on July 11.

This marks another successful maritime operation by the ICG, which just last month had rescued three Sri Lankan nationals stranded near Adam’s Bridge off Tamil Nadu’s Dhanushkodi coast.
