Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked during a Jan Sunvai (public hearing) at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday, prompting a police inquiry into the incident.
In a statement, Delhi BJP president Virendraa Sachdeva condemned the alleged attack, calling it a “serious matter” and emphasising the need for a thorough probe. “A mishap happened during Jan Sunvai at CM Residence, Civil Lines. Delhi BJP strongly condemns the attack on CM Rekha Gupta during the weekly Jan Sunvai. Police inquiry will reveal the details,” the party stated.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav also criticised the incident, terming it “unfortunate” and raising concerns over the security of the Chief Minister. “This is very unfortunate. The CM leads the entire Delhi. If the CM herself is not safe, how can a common man or woman feel secure?” he said, adding that the episode highlights the broader issue of women’s safety in the capital.
The incident comes a day after CM Gupta visited flood-affected areas in Yamuna Bazaar, where she assured residents that the situation was under control despite rising water levels. She said relief measures, including food, water, medical aid, and temporary shelters in schools, were being provided to those displaced.
Police have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the sequence of events and circumstances leading to the alleged attack.
