Delhi Airport Resumes Operations Amid Heightened Security; Passengers Advised to Arrive Early

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport resumed full operations in the early hours of Saturday, following a temporary disruption amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The airport authority has issued a detailed travel advisory to guide passengers through ongoing security measures.

“Delhi Airport operations are normal at present. However, due to changing airspace conditions and increased security protocols as per orders from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, some flight schedules may be impacted, and processing times at security checkpoints could be longer,” the advisory stated.

Passengers have been urged to stay updated via their airlines, adhere to baggage regulations, and arrive early to accommodate additional screening procedures. The airport has also advised travelers to rely only on official sources for accurate information and refrain from circulating unverified content.

The advisory follows the temporary closure of 32 civil airports across Northern and Western India, announced by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and aviation authorities earlier this week. The closures, effective from May 9 to May 14, were implemented for “operational reasons” amid growing security concerns.

The list of affected airports includes key installations in Adhampur, Amritsar, Ambala, Jammu, Srinagar, Bhuj, Leh, Jaisalmer, Pathankot, and Chandigarh, among others.

The airspace restrictions and elevated alert levels come in the wake of widespread drone sightings across 26 locations stretching from Baramulla in the north to Bhuj in the south, along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC). Defence sources say the drones are suspected to be armed, posing a threat to both civilian and military infrastructure.

The situation remains under close observation, with Indian armed forces actively deploying counter-drone systems and maintaining heightened vigilance across sensitive zones.
