At an all-party meeting convened on Thursday to discuss India’s Operation Sindoor and the escalating situation along the Line of Control (LoC), the Congress party extended full support to the Central government but raised sharp questions over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi joined other political leaders at the Parliament Annexe, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed the parties on the security situation following India’s targeted strikes on nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

“We are all with the government in this hour of crisis,” Kharge told reporters after the meeting. “We told them to continue their actions in the interest of national security, and they have our full support.” He added that the government refrained from revealing specific operational details, citing confidentiality.

However, Kharge didn’t hold back from criticising the Prime Minister’s absence, saying, “He skipped the last meeting too. It seems he believes he is above Parliament. While this is not the time for criticism, these questions will be asked.”

Rahul Gandhi also expressed solidarity, stating, “We gave our full support. As Kharge ji said, some matters are confidential, but everyone supported the government’s stance.”

The meeting was also attended by Union Ministers Amit Shah and JP Nadda, and leaders from various opposition parties, reflecting a rare moment of political unity in response to a national security challenge — albeit with lingering tensions over leadership visibility at the highest level.
