In the wake of Operation Sindoor, the Indian government’s precision military strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), the Centre has convened an all-party meeting on Thursday, May 8, to brief political leaders on the steps taken in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

The meeting will be held at 11 a.m. in Committee Room G-074 of the Parliament Library Building in New Delhi. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the development via a post on X.

Ahead of the government’s all-party briefing, the Congress Party has also called an internal strategy meeting of its senior leaders at 3 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss the evolving security situation.

“Hon’ble Congress President Sh. Mallikarjun Kharge ji has convened an emergency informal meeting of senior leaders at 3 PM today at 24 Akbar Road,” announced AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal on X.

This is the second all-party meeting on the issue. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, opposition parties had earlier pledged full support to the government for any decisive action against terrorism.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the Pahalgam attack as an act of “extreme barbarity,” noting that most victims were executed with headshots at close range in front of their families.

“The intent was to terrorise and destabilise the return to normalcy in Kashmir,” he said.

Misri also warned that intelligence inputs pointed to impending terror attacks, which necessitated swift and proportional military action.

“Our response was measured, non-escalatory, and focused solely on dismantling terrorist infrastructure,” he stated.

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed that nine terrorist camps were precisely targeted and destroyed with no reported civilian casualties. The strikes were aimed at camps linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who also addressed the media, presented video footage of the destroyed camps, including Muridke, known for training 2008 Mumbai attackers Ajmal Kasab and David Headley.

Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of Wednesday, marks India’s most significant cross-border counterterrorism action in decades. The operation was carried out jointly by the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 civilians were killed, will face severe consequences.
