Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, along with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, on Wednesday offered a detailed perspective into the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, India’s powerful military response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
During the interaction, the apex leadership of the Indian Armed Forces outlined the strategic coordination and joint operational excellence that defined Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 in retaliation to the April 22 attack that claimed 26 lives.
The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) emphasized the tri-services synergy, achieved through clear strategic guidance and multi-domain operations, showcasing India’s advanced defence capabilities and military preparedness. These insights were shared in a session involving veterans and strategic think tanks, further reinforcing the role of jointness in modern warfare.
Operation Sindoor targeted multiple terror infrastructure hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Following these precision strikes, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling and drone activity, which was countered by India with targeted attacks that crippled radar systems, airfields, and communication centres across 11 airbases.
The offensive was followed by a mutual understanding of cessation of hostilities on May 10, marking a temporary halt in military escalations.
The Armed Forces’ leadership hailed Operation Sindoor as a benchmark of joint operational success, affirming that India’s integrated defence strategy is equipped to deliver decisive outcomes in the face of terrorism and cross-border aggression.
