BJP Andhra Pradesh spokesperson Sadineni Yamini Sharma has welcomed the arrest of YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with what she termed the “biggest-ever liquor scam” in the country, worth ₹3,200 crore.

Calling the arrest a sign of the “transparency, accountability, and commitment” of the current government, Sharma accused Reddy of manipulating the state’s excise policy for personal gain. She alleged he altered the automatic liquor order system and routed kickbacks through shell companies, accumulating illicit wealth.

“On behalf of the BJP, I welcome the arrest of YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy… He manipulated the excise policy, altered the automatic order placement system, collected kickbacks and funnelled funds through shell companies,” Sharma said while speaking to ANI.

The SIT claims Reddy played a key role in the scam, which involved replacing well-known liquor brands with lesser-known ones in exchange for bribes. Sharma further added that this was likely just the beginning of a larger crackdown, hinting at more arrests to follow.

“The remaining people involved in this massive liquor scam network will be behind bars very soon,” she asserted.

Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party has strongly condemned the arrest, accusing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of using law enforcement as a tool for political vendetta.

In a joint press statement, YSRCP leaders including Botsa Satyanarayana, Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani), Ambati Rambabu, Merugu Nagarjuna, and party general secretary G Srikanth Reddy alleged that the SIT action was politically motivated.

“This arrest after day-long interrogation in a so-called liquor scam shows how far CM Chandrababu is willing to go to silence opposition leaders,” the statement read.

The YSRCP leaders vowed that public support for their party remains strong and accused the ruling TDP of fabricating cases to undermine political opponents.

As the case unfolds, the arrest of a sitting MP in such a massive scam has stirred political tensions in Andhra Pradesh, with both parties trading serious charges amid a deepening war of words.
