Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday strongly criticized the Congress, accusing its leaders of using derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and even targeting his late mother during the party’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar.

Speaking at a public rally in Guwahati, Shah demanded an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

“The most condemnable act has been committed by using abusive words for PM Modi’s late mother. I ask Rahul Gandhi, if there is any shame left, apologise to PM Modi and his late mother. This politics of hatred will only drag the nation into darkness,” he said.

Shah further alleged that the Congress has a history of making such attacks. “Since Modi ji became Chief Minister, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Manishankar Iyer, Jairam Ramesh, and Renuka Chowdhary have used terms like ‘maut ka saudagar’, ‘zehreela saanp’, ‘ravan’, and ‘virus’. Do they expect people’s mandate with such language?” he remarked.

Criticizing the Bihar yatra, Shah added, “Every abuse you hurl at PM Modi will only make the lotus bloom bigger. After every election loss, you launch yatras like this ‘Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra’. How can elections be fair if infiltrators influence them?”

His comments followed the circulation of a video allegedly showing offensive slogans against PM Modi during an INDIA bloc event in Bihar. The Darbhanga Police have arrested one accused and registered a case in the matter.

Apart from politics, Shah’s two-day visit to Assam included inaugurating the newly constructed Brahmaputra wing of Raj Bhavan. He lauded the region’s progress, saying, “After many ups and downs, the Northeast is moving towards peace, security, and development. The last 11 years will be remembered in golden letters in the region’s history.”

During his stay, Shah is also scheduled to:

  • Review the progress of the Jyoti-Bishnu Cultural Complex, a 5,000-seat auditorium in Guwahati.
  • Inaugurate the centenary celebrations of Assam’s first non-Congress Chief Minister Gaurap Borbora.
  • Dedicate new projects to the ITBP, SSB, and Assam Rifles, including the launch of the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory.
