The 30th edition of the nationwide fitness initiative ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ was held with great enthusiasm on Sunday, with the main event taking place in Delhi. Cyclists began their ride from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, pedalling past iconic landmarks including the India Gate C-Hexagon and Vijay Chowk along Kartavya Path before returning to the starting point.

Visuals from the event showed scores of cyclists enjoying the morning ride against the backdrop of India Gate, symbolising the growing popularity of the fitness movement.

This week’s edition was organised in partnership with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), covering over 6,000 locations across India. The initiative aims to encourage citizens to adopt active lifestyles through cycling, yoga, and other fitness activities.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, who launched the initiative in December 2024, praised its success and widespread reach.

“Fit India Sundays on Cycle has gradually become a mass movement. I urge all citizens to join and take up cycling and yoga to stay fit, prevent lifestyle diseases, and reduce pollution in their communities,” Mandaviya stated in a press release by SAI Media.

Sharing his thoughts on X, the Minister added, “Sunday will become Fitness Day! Over 6,000 locations will host #SundaysOnCycle. With the involvement of RWAs, we are bringing PM Modi ji’s fitness mantra to every household.”

The event has consistently drawn large participation, with over 50,000 cyclists joining each week. RWAs, estimated to number between 5 to 6 lakh across India, are playing a crucial role in mobilising local communities to adopt healthy, sustainable habits.

Besides Delhi, the cycling event was simultaneously conducted in all state capitals, Union Territories, SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, and Khelo India facilities, fostering a pan-India fitness culture.
