As anticipation builds for the release of their upcoming film Aap Jaisa Koi, actors R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh opened up about the film’s themes of loneliness, love, and emotional complexities in relationships, emphasizing how the story reflects real-life experiences.

Directed by Vivek Soni, the film features Madhavan as Shrirenu, a reserved Sanskrit teacher, and Fatima as Madhu, an outspoken French instructor. Their contrasting personalities lead to a unique love story rooted in deep emotions and ideological clashes.

Speaking to ANI, Madhavan said, “Aap Jaisa Koi addresses the biggest illness of our time—loneliness. Even in a connected world full of social media, people feel alone. This film tries to show how love can be the remedy for that solitude.” He added that the story resonates with modern viewers struggling to find meaningful connections.

Fatima, known for her roles in Ludo and Dangal, shared what drew her to the project. “The script was beautiful, layered, and real. It wasn’t just about a boy and a girl in love—it showed the emotional complexities and subtle conflicts between them. And of course, working with Maddy was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss,” she said.

Madhavan highlighted how the film stands out by portraying age-appropriate romance. “I play a 40-year-old man falling in love for the first time. And when that happens, you behave like a teenager. It’s a new learning, a new way to express love.”

The film also touches upon patriarchy and equality in relationships. Fatima explained, “We are not attacking masculinity. We’re showing how even a well-intentioned man, shaped by rigid societal norms, may unknowingly contribute to inequality. It’s about recognising those subtle imbalances in love.”

Set in a conservative household in Jamshedpur, the film follows Shrirenu as he navigates the turmoil caused when he falls for Madhu, who comes from a liberal, independent background. Their clash of values drives the narrative forward, challenging deeply rooted gender roles.

Produced by Dharmatic Entertainments, Aap Jaisa Koi premieres on Netflix on July 11. The trailer, already released by Madhavan on social media, has garnered attention for its tender yet thought-provoking portrayal of modern love.
