Monorail services in Mumbai resumed on Monday morning after a nearly two-hour halt caused by a technical glitch near Wadala’s Mukundrao Ambedkar Road junction, officials confirmed.

The incident, reported around 7:15 am, left 17 passengers stranded, all of whom were safely evacuated by 7:45 am, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Assistant Divisional Fire Officer VN Sanghle said that upon receiving the alert, the Mumbai Fire Brigade dispatched a special vehicle, but by the time it arrived, the monorail’s technical team had already completed the evacuation. The halted train was later moved to Wadala through coupling.

Ward Councillor Rajesh Ananda Bhojane criticised the repeated disruptions, urging the Maharashtra government to address the recurring technical and supply issues affecting the service.

This is the second such incident in less than a month. On August 19, a power supply failure stalled a monorail near Mysore Colony, leaving over 500 passengers stranded for more than three hours before a large-scale rescue operation was carried out by the BMC, fire brigade, and police.

Authorities noted that overcrowding was a major factor behind the earlier disruption and assured that preventive measures are being taken to avoid such breakdowns.
