Several parts of Delhi, including Minto Bridge, Vijay Chowk, Moti Bagh flyover, Rafi Marg, and Nizamuddin flyover, witnessed heavy downpours on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a “thunderstorm with rain” for the day. The maximum temperature is expected to touch 34°C, while the minimum will hover around 25°C.
While Delhi saw fresh showers, Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the devastating impact of the monsoon. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 229 lives have been lost since June 20 — 119 in rain-related incidents and 110 in road accidents. Economic losses have soared past ₹2,007 crore, affecting human lives, property, agriculture, horticulture, livestock, and infrastructure.
The state has recorded 1,611 cattle deaths and the loss of 25,755 poultry birds. Infrastructure has been badly hit, with PWD roads suffering damages worth ₹1,071.82 crore, Jal Shakti water schemes losing ₹682.99 crore, and power infrastructure facing damages of ₹139.46 crore.
The housing sector has also been severely impacted, with 916 houses fully destroyed, 27,366 partially damaged, and hundreds of cow sheds, labour huts, and other structures lost. Kangra district reported the highest rain-related death toll at 26, followed by Mandi with 23 fatalities.
Authorities are carrying out restoration work, but recurring landslides, road blockages, and ongoing heavy rainfall are hampering progress. The SDMA has urged residents in vulnerable zones to remain alert and follow safety advisories.
