In a major crackdown on illegal immigration, Delhi Police’s North West District has apprehended 38 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, who had previously resided in Nuh, Haryana, and travelled through Bihar before settling in Delhi.
According to police officials, the group had attempted to establish themselves in Bihar but failed to find livelihood opportunities or establish local connections. They later moved to Delhi, where they began working in factories and living in unauthorized settlements. None of the individuals possessed valid documents permitting legal residence in India.
This operation is part of an intensified effort by Delhi Police to identify and act against illegal immigrants in the National Capital Region. The drive, which began on November 19, 2024, has already led to the identification and deportation of at least 20 Bangladeshi nationals, police said.
In a separate operation on Thursday, the East District Police arrested five more Bangladeshi nationals from the Anand Vihar area. The group included Md Shaheen (30), his wife Rujeena (26), and their three minor children. They reportedly entered India through illegal riverine routes along the Indo-Bangladesh border and were residing covertly in East Delhi to avoid detection.
DCP East Abhishek Dhania stated that the arrests followed targeted surveillance based on specific intelligence inputs. “Our special staff team used a mix of human and technical intelligence to track the suspects,” he said.
In a related development, sources confirmed that around 160 Bangladeshi nationals are being deported from Delhi to Bangladesh through the Hindon airbase.
Delhi Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding internal security and upholding immigration laws. They stated that efforts to identify, apprehend, and deport illegal immigrants will continue with increased vigilance and coordination across districts.
