Tesla Teases July Launch in India, Set to Open Showrooms Amid Policy Shift

Electric vehicle giant Tesla is poised to enter the Indian market this month, as confirmed by a teaser shared Friday on its India-focused X handle. The brief post simply states “Coming soon,” accompanied by a graphic suggesting a July 2025 debut.

Despite earlier speculation about local manufacturing, Tesla is currently focusing solely on establishing showrooms in India, according to Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy. In June, the minister clarified, “They want to sell their car in India. There is no further development about Tesla.”

The company had earlier initiated the hiring process for key roles in India, signaling growing preparations for its market entry. While Tesla has remained mostly silent on official plans, this recent teaser aligns with industry buzz surrounding its India debut.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously expressed interest in the Indian market but flagged high import duties as a major hurdle. However, India’s new EV policy—introduced earlier this year—offered reduced import duties and a range of incentives to attract global electric vehicle manufacturers.

In a show of growing engagement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Musk held a phone conversation in April to explore technological collaboration opportunities. The two had also met in person in the U.S. this February.

Tesla’s long-anticipated arrival marks a significant moment for India’s electric mobility landscape, promising increased competition and consumer choice in the premium EV segment.
