With Independence Day around the corner, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday invited Indian citizens to share themes and ideas they wish to see reflected in his August 15 address from the Red Fort.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister encouraged people to submit suggestions via the MyGov platform or the NaMo App.
“As we approach this year’s Independence Day, I look forward to hearing from my fellow Indians! What themes or ideas would you like to see reflected in this year’s Independence Day speech? Share your thoughts on the Open Forums on MyGov and the NaMo App,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech is an annual tradition, delivered after hoisting the national flag at the historic Red Fort in Delhi. It sets the tone for the country’s vision and policy priorities.
In his 2023 Independence Day address, PM Modi focused on the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, a roadmap to make India a developed nation by the centenary of independence. He also touched on key issues such as:
- Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India)
- Ease of living
- Women’s role in the armed forces
- Political nepotism
- Uniform Civil Code
- India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics
The ceremony traditionally begins with a ‘Rashtriya Salute’, followed by the National Anthem performed by a military band. Last year, the Punjab Regiment Band took part in the proceedings, led by Subedar Major Rajinder Singh.
PM Modi also follows the custom of paying tribute at Raj Ghat before the main celebration.
This year’s address will mark PM Modi’s 12th consecutive Independence Day speech, making him only the third Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to reach this milestone.
