Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally address critical national concerns in Parliament during the upcoming Monsoon Session, calling it essential for transparency and public trust.
Gogoi stressed that the Prime Minister must speak on key matters such as the Pahalgam terror attack, the functioning of the Election Commission, and recent remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding India-Pakistan ceasefire mediation.
“There are crucial issues that require the Prime Minister’s response—particularly the Pahalgam attack, security lapses, and recent foreign policy concerns. The country deserves answers,” Gogoi told reporters after the all-party meeting held ahead of the session.
He also emphasized the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, raising concerns over voter rights and the transparency of the electoral process. Gogoi alleged the Election Commission has failed to clarify its actions, deepening suspicion around upcoming elections.
“The Prime Minister, as the head of the government, must come to the House and clarify his government’s stand on the integrity of elections and the role of the Election Commission,” he said.
On foreign policy, Gogoi pointed to the alarming security situation at India’s borders, noting recent concerns raised by defence officials about a potential “two-front threat” involving China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. He called on the Prime Minister to explain the government’s strategic response.
Gogoi also criticized the government’s handling of the Manipur crisis, saying peace remains elusive nearly two and a half years after the Prime Minister’s promise to restore normalcy in the conflict-hit northeastern state.
“The Prime Minister has travelled abroad to several countries, but has avoided visiting Manipur where his intervention is desperately needed. The country expects leadership at home,” Gogoi remarked.
With the Monsoon Session set to begin on Monday, July 21, the opposition alliance INDIA plans to raise these key issues collectively. The bloc is demanding that PM Modi attend the House and respond directly, ensuring accountability on matters of national security, democratic rights, and foreign policy.
Gogoi concluded by expressing hope for positive and meaningful discussions in Parliament, underlining that the nation expects clarity, not silence, from its leadership.
