On the occasion of US Independence Day, President Donald Trump signed into law the much-anticipated ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’, a sweeping legislative package that includes tax cuts and increased funding for the Pentagon and border security.

The bill’s signing, hailed by Trump as a “triumph of democracy,” came after months of negotiations with Republican lawmakers. The final legislative push was timed to coincide with July 4 celebrations, fulfilling a goal set by the administration.

“We made promises—and it’s really promises made, promises kept,” Trump said during a military family picnic at the White House. “This is a triumph of democracy on the birthday of democracy. And I have to say, the people are happy.”

The ceremonial signing was attended by First Lady Melania Trump, senior Cabinet officials, and key Republican leaders including House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Whip Tom Emmer, and Rep. Jason Smith.

The event featured a dramatic flypast of two B-2 bombers, the same aircraft used in last month’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, further underlining the bill’s strong national defense focus.

The bill narrowly passed in the House of Representatives on Thursday with a 218–214 vote. Notably, two Republicans—Reps. Thomas Massie and Brian Fitzpatrick—voted against it.

Earlier, the US Senate approved the bill in a tight 51–50 vote, with Vice President JD Vance casting the decisive tie-breaking vote.

Celebrating the bill’s passage, Trump posted on social media:
“The Republicans in the House of Representatives have just passed the ‘ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL ACT.’ Our Party is UNITED like never before, and our Country is HOT.”

The bill’s passage represents a major legislative victory for Trump’s second-term agenda, reinforcing his administration’s priorities on defense, security, and economic reform.
