US President Donald Trump on Monday struck a conciliatory tone following Iran’s missile attacks on American military bases in Qatar and Iraq, expressing hope that the episode could mark the beginning of de-escalation in West Asia.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump characterized Iran’s response to recent US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities as “very weak” and said the situation was well-managed by US forces. He claimed that 13 out of 14 missiles were intercepted and that the one that got through posed no threat.
“Iran has officially responded to our obliteration of their nuclear facilities with a very weak response, which we expected and effectively countered. I’m pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done,” Trump wrote.
He added that Iran’s strike may have “gotten it all out of their system” and suggested it could be the end of the current cycle of confrontation. “Most importantly, there will, hopefully, be no further hate,” he said.
Striking a tone of diplomacy, Trump urged both Iran and Israel to move toward peaceful engagement. “Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same,” he wrote.
In a separate post, Trump thanked Qatar’s Emir for advocating peace amid the crisis. “I’d like to thank the Highly Respected Emir of Qatar for all that he has done in seeking peace for the region… very importantly, there have also been no Qataris killed or wounded,” he said, referring to the missile strike on Al-Udeid Air Base.
He concluded his remarks with an emphatic call for global calm: “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!”
The statements come in the wake of a dramatic escalation in the Middle East after Iran launched multiple missiles targeting US military sites in Qatar and Iraq, including the Al-Udeid Air Base—the largest US military installation in the region. The strikes were seen as retaliation for US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow on Sunday.
