In a heartbreaking statement, Uma Raghuvanshi, the mother of late Raja Raghuvanshi, has said that if her daughter-in-law Sonam is found guilty in her son’s murder, she should be hanged. However, she also urged authorities not to falsely accuse Sonam without solid proof, citing her previously warm behavior.
Speaking to the media, Uma said, “If Sonam is involved, she should be hanged… but if she hasn’t done anything, why accuse her?” She further demanded the interrogation of the three men already arrested in connection with the murder. “I want the three men caught to be interrogated,” she added.
Uma expressed shock at the developments, recalling how Sonam had always behaved affectionately. “Sonam used to hug me when we met. I never imagined she could be involved in anything like this.”
She revealed that Sonam had booked the couple’s trip and extended it to Shillong, a place her family had previously visited. Uma also recalled an eerie moment before the couple’s departure, when Raja mentioned wearing a chain on Sonam’s suggestion. “I sensed danger then,” she said.
Meanwhile, Raja’s brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, echoed the family’s call for justice, saying, “Sonam herself will reveal what happened. If she’s involved, strict action must be taken.”
Sonam Raghuvanshi was found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road, according to Uttar Pradesh Police. She had gone missing along with Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Raja’s body was later recovered there, triggering a murder investigation.
Three suspects from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, while Sonam remains a key figure in the investigation. The family has also demanded a CBI probe into the case for a transparent and thorough inquiry.
