Union Minister Anupriya Patel on Sunday accused Congress leaders of politicising Operation Sindoor, asserting that issues concerning national security and honour should transcend party lines.

Speaking to the media, Patel said, “Operation Sindoor is directly related to the country’s security and dignity. Congress leaders are unnecessarily doing politics on this matter, which is unfortunate.”

She emphasized that India’s global stance against terrorism has been widely acknowledged and appreciated. “During recent visits by India’s parliamentary delegation to various countries, the global community expressed support for India’s firm policy against terrorism,” she noted.

Patel further added, “India’s calculated and impactful response to terrorism is now recognized globally. At such a time, unity on the issue of national security is crucial.”

Underscoring the importance of a united front during international engagements, Patel urged leaders to reflect national pride while abroad. “Our delegation presented a strong and unified stance, in line with India’s commitment to fighting terrorism,” she said.

Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 in retaliation to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives. The operation targeted nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir. In response to Pakistan’s cross-border shelling and drone attempts, India carried out strikes on 11 airbases, damaging key radar and communication infrastructure.

A ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan was reached on May 10 following the escalation.
