BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, heading an all-party parliamentary delegation to Belgium, emphasized the global need for a “collective resolve” in combating terrorism and defending democracy, human values, and humanity. The visit is part of India’s diplomatic offensive following Operation Sindoor, aimed at building international consensus against cross-border terrorism.
Following high-level meetings with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from the Foreign Affairs and Security and Defence Committees, Prasad described the response as “extraordinary.”
“There was unanimity in support for action against terrorism, and they were the first to convey solidarity to India,” said Prasad. “India is a stabilising, democratic force in the region, and the world must unite against terror in all its forms.”
The delegation, which includes MPs across party lines, is visiting key European capitals to brief officials on the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed, and on India’s military response — Operation Sindoor — launched on May 7.
BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari underlined India’s military strength, saying, “The Indian Army never surrenders — they thunder. We had both men and women leading from the front in the battlefield.”
She also warned the world about evolving threats: “Terrorism today is unconventional — sleeper cells, radicalisation — if it’s at India’s doorstep now, it could be at yours tomorrow.”
Samik Bhattacharya, another delegation member, echoed the concerns, pointing to early signs of extremist ideologies affecting Europe.
“If anti-Hindu, anti-Christian, and anti-Buddhist propaganda continues unchecked, the consequences won’t be confined to India. Europe must act now.”
He further cited Prime Minister Modi’s stance on terrorism financing and questioned the misuse of international aid to Pakistan.
“While Pakistanis go hungry, military elites buy properties across the globe — the world must demand accountability. PM Modi has made it clear — future cross-border attacks will be treated as acts of war.”
The Brussels leg follows a successful UK visit, where the delegation met with British lawmakers, including the Speaker of the House of Commons and Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel. The focus was on highlighting Pakistan’s role in promoting terrorism and pushing for greater oversight of terror financing.
Apart from Prasad, Purandeswari, and Bhattacharya, the delegation includes Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MPs Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh, former Union Minister MJ Akbar, and ex-diplomat Pankaj Saran.
The outreach mission continues as India seeks to position itself as a global voice in the fight against terrorism, following the decisive strikes of Operation Sindoor, which neutralized over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
