In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across Madhya Pradesh, a BJP councillor was shot dead in broad daylight during his morning walk in Datia district on Tuesday.

Lallu Kushwaha, a corporator from Ward No. 1 of the Datia municipal body, was attacked by three unidentified bike-borne assailants at Sewda Chungi Chowk. He was accompanied by two friends at the time of the incident.

Sudden Attack in Public View

According to initial reports, the attackers fired two rounds at close range. One bullet struck Kushwaha in the back, while the other hit his head. He died on the spot, leaving bystanders in shock as the assailants fled immediately after the shooting.

The brazen nature of the attack, carried out in a public area during morning hours, has raised serious concerns about law and order in the region.

Police Begin Investigation

Police teams rushed to the scene soon after receiving information and sent the body for postmortem. Authorities have begun scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and are questioning eyewitnesses to trace the attackers.

SDOP Aakansha Jain confirmed that multiple teams have been deployed to identify and arrest those involved. “We are collecting evidence and examining all possible angles,” she said.

Criminal Background Adds Complexity

Kushwaha’s past has added another layer to the investigation. Police officials revealed that he had over 15 criminal cases registered against him.

In 2025, a district court had sentenced him and six others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of former corporator Bal Kishan Kushwaha. However, he had been released on bail by the High Court around four months ago.

Political Journey

Despite his legal troubles, Lallu Kushwaha remained an active political figure. He was elected as a councillor in 2022 on a BJP ticket and held influence in local civic politics.

Rising Questions

The killing has sparked debate over political rivalry, criminal history, and public safety. While the exact motive remains unclear, investigators are exploring all possibilities, including personal enmity and past disputes.

(This is a developing story. More details are awaited.)
