Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana for Bihar via video conferencing, transferring Rs 10,000 each to 75 lakh women, totaling Rs 7,500 crore.
Under the scheme, each woman receives an initial grant of Rs 10,000 via Direct Benefit Transfer, with the potential for additional support of up to Rs 2 lakh in subsequent phases. The financial aid can be used for activities such as agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises.
During the launch, PM Modi interacted with beneficiaries, who expressed gratitude towards him and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the initiative aims to make women Aatmanirbhar, promoting self-employment and economic independence. Each family in the state will have one woman beneficiary, supported not only financially but also through training by community resource persons linked to Self Help Groups. Gramin Haat-Bazaars will be developed to help women sell their produce.
The launch was conducted statewide across district, block, cluster, and village levels, with over one crore women participating in the program, the PMO said.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Narendra Kashyap praised the initiative, stating, “PM Modi has always focused on women’s welfare and empowerment. Such schemes will benefit the women of Bihar and help the state emerge among the leading developing states of India.”
The scheme is expected to create ample livelihood opportunities for women, furthering social and economic empowerment across Bihar.
