Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with local taxpayers, traders, and industry representatives in Arunachal Pradesh, discussing the benefits of the newly implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate reduction.
During the ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ event in Itanagar, the Prime Minister met artisans and industry leaders, from sellers of local handicrafts to packaged milk and food products. Emphasising the importance of supporting homegrown products, he encouraged traders and consumers to buy “swadeshi” goods. Modi also handed out placards reading “Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai”, which shopkeepers promised to display proudly in their establishments.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over Rs 5,100 crore in Arunachal Pradesh, including two major hydropower projects—the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project in the Siyom sub-basin—and a state-of-the-art Convention Center in Tawang capable of hosting over 1,500 delegates for national and international events.
Additionally, Modi will inaugurate development work for the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Complex in Tripura and launch infrastructure projects valued at over Rs 1,290 crore, covering connectivity, health, fire safety, and working women hostels.
The PMO highlighted that these initiatives align with the government’s vision to improve ease of doing business, strengthen entrepreneurship, and boost economic activity in the region, while enhancing the quality of life and connectivity for residents.
