The Operations Cell of Delhi Police’s South West District has detained three Nigerian nationals residing illegally in India, officials said on Saturday. Deportation proceedings have been initiated through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), New Delhi, following completion of all legal formalities.

The detainees have been identified as Eloumuno Gabriel (29) from Amambra, Chinedu Paulinus (33) from Asaba, and Sunusi Sani (26) from Lagos.

Initially, the trio claimed to possess valid visas deposited with the Nigerian High Commission, but verification revealed that they had overstayed in India and had not returned to Nigeria.

Police received information about illegal African migrants in Sagarpur and Palam village areas. Acting on the tip-off, the team intercepted the men, who failed to produce valid visa documents and admitted to staying illegally.

A search of their mobile phones uncovered copies of their passports and Nigerian national ID cards. The detainees stated that they had been working housekeeping jobs alongside other African nationals in Shahpura, Gurugram, and Noida, while residing in Dwarka Sector-01 near Palam village, and were looking for work at the time of detention.

Last month, the FRRO had detained another Nigerian national in Chhatarpur, following a petition to the Delhi High Court, which highlighted the individual’s illegal stay despite visa rejections.
